As pointed out by @
Lolek Bolek, I forgot to add a part about auto-mounting your external hard drive upon boot/reboot. I've added the instructions for this in the blog post: https://dbte.ch/fstab
your demo started good, But then you went so fast I got lost…I would like to create pi web server…
Great info. But you don't actually need PuttY anymore. Windows 10 have an excellent SSH-client built in now. Just type ssh from PowerShell. 🙂
Hey, Thanks for the video. Nice… But can´t enter my samba shared folder in Windows. Followed your tutorial step-by-step….
without using the MicroSD, can I directly burn the Raspbian image onto an SDD and install everything similarly on it so that I don't have to worry about the MicroSD corrupting?
Hi DB Tech, thanks for the wonderful video, I have 1 doubt I followed your all instruction but when I opened the samba share drive and type ds in username and password its failed, may I know if there's any other initial username and password?
Is it suicidal to try to install it on a RBPi 1 Model B?
I just want Pihole and Hoobs for now (actually they are both running bare metal no issues on that RBPi, but I want to test other containters as well)
Two questions, Is this better than openmediavault to install docker and how many contains can a rpi 4 run?
1)Is there any significant difference in usage between using SSD or HDD in this kind of application especially considering using the general(not gaming-grade) Wi-fi to share files locally?
2)Also in your choice, there seems to be a lot torrent and/or Dl type apps, will they degrade the SDD faster than usual and thus we should use the HDD for this combo?
Did you do a remote access video? Please let me know!
My Plex/emby are not reachable following this guide. Any tips?
If I try to change all those global variables, it doesn't show one for downloads, media, tv, music etc. Did I do something wrong? Other than that amazing video! Thx.
Hi! I'm the dev of DockSTARTer and I just found this video! I love it! Thank you so much for running through everything in great detail!
I'm completely new to this so sorry if i sound dim here. When i plug in an external hd it auto mounts already to a location called /media/pi/<HARD-DRIVE-LABEL>. So why do you explain mounting it to the mnt folder? Should i disabled the auto mounting? Thanks.
Dockstarter made a lot of the variable settings obsolete and unfortunately it made your script/video unusable – Can you please try it again with the new version of Dockstarter?
if you´re in sudo su, you don´t need sudo while in it AFAIK
would you say windows for raspberry pi rans smoother then raspberry pi os?
Wow thanks so much for the video… I will be trying this out on my pi4b 8gb.
Also please make sure you have file name extensions checked in the file explorer
Strangely I can NOT change default samba password and username credentials. It does change in the .env file, I can run "ds -c up samba" command and reboot but no effect. Changeing other samba settings like share name takes effect but password and user always remains the same "ds". Can someone please explain ?
But what's the point doing this for home server? You can easily do the old school way.
8:55 this made me laugh
Can we change the user name and password of the drive?
Hi, I have a question: is it possible to install OMV5 as well after installing DockSTARTer? Thanks
Well appreciated, I'm watch all your videos
Great exciting video! I'm a newbie old guy. Two foolish questions: I have pi-hole should I connect my raspberry by ethernet to my router? are all the applications implied here open source?
Hi! Thx for the nice tutorial. I am wonderung how you can find out your pi's ip address, if you don't setup a wpa_supplicant.conf in the root folder as well before first boot. At least you did not include this step. Of course I am talking about the non desktop light versions… would be great if could also tell this trick! looking forward for more pi videos : )
Thanks for the content. I’ve actually never owned or used a raspberry pi, but am looking go get one for content filtering / ad blocking / VPN, but am also considering putting one together with one of those old school NES-like case and make it a retro game console.
Really interesting video. But I am still a little confused. So do I have to copy and save movies, tv shows, books etc in to the folder medialibrary on my pc? Or how do they get in their? Sorry if this might sound like a stupid question but I am new to this stuff but I want to learn this 🙂
I have followed the instructions on the blog, but I keep on receiving an error "Failed to install the latest docker compose" FATAL "failed to install the minimum required docker-compose". I have tried starting again from scratch, flashing the micro-sd again etc, but this has not made a difference
How is that possible 19 servicsles running same time? Jellyfin alone taking 100% util and making pi unresponsive, no media added yet. Please help
Hello!
First I want to thank you for this amazing tutorial. I was trying to achieve this exact result manually and I didn't manage to configure the containers by myself manually.
I followed this tutorial, installed the same apps as you did but after i reboot my device, my network systray icon shows that it can't connect to the network, i can access it remotely and when i do a ifconfig i see a lot of new network devices. also i don't have internet connectivity. I have to disable most of the containers to get it all back
One thing that you didn't talk in depth is how to configure a VPN do that all the containers get a private and secured connection to the web. I use PIA but i'm not sure that i configured everything right in the VPN menu. Do you know what i need to change and how to validate my configs?
thanks and best regards
Every time I try to download dockstarter it gives me this:
2020-07-30 20:35:55 [FATAL ] Failed to upgrade packages from apt.
2020-07-30 20:35:55 [ERROR ] DockSTARTer did not finish running successfully.

I am running the 64-bit experimental Raspberry Pi OS. And for some reason I don't know, (probably my fault), whenever I install docker-ce my eth0 interface quits talking. Any idea why, where i should start looking to diagnose?
Hi, Does this video apply to Nextcloud too? Beause i saw the other video of yours, that you manual install nextcloud. I want to setup an Raspberry pi 4b 4gb server with Nextcloud, Plex, Samba, FTP, Deluge and Pi Hole, but i dont know the proper and the easiest way to do that. Like do i need OMV5 as foundation for portainer or nginx to customize port ( i think you can adjust that to in portainer right?) or do i skip OMV5 and install directly on top Raspberry Pi OS. Also i want to backup my data nextcloud do i use raid 1 or Rsync? Also to install containers do i use dockerstart like you mention in this video or do use the other method (template version) Thanks in advance, Subbie
Thank you.
In a small museum, I want to use a raspberry pi to show videos when the visitor steps up to the monitor and hits a button. Can you do a video showing how it is done? Also, can you have multiple buttons on the pi and show a choice of videos? Each video would be s short program about items in the museum.
Is it possible to make a cloud streaming service privately like spotify, but with my own private music that I can access when not even home being connected to same wifi/internet?
