  1. I had the EXACT same thought in the opening sequence, I even said aloud to my partner that it felt like a natural evolution from the Freddy talk show scene in New Nightmare. 😅

Honestly, I loved this movie as much as the first. It all felt natural with the characters who stuck around, like this would be exactly how they'd respond.

    (Spoilers below!)

One character arc in this film I really loved was when Gale ran to Dewey at the end. She started the same as she was before, maybe even more coldly ambitious due to her recent success, but by the end she genuinely wants to help and cares for Dewey enough to throw away the story so she can be by his side. Good shit, Gale. 🖤

  2. I felt like the reveal at the end of who committed the murders in Scream 2 was very out of nowhere. At the end of the first I was like, "Ah, that makes sense1" At the end of this I was staring in disbelief thinking, "How the hell is anyone supposed to guess this?" Otherwise amazing though.

  3. I agree that the first movie does everything better with just one exception, I personally think the opening scene was much better in the sequel but I still love the originals opening

  4. I felt like scream 2 had more tense scenes and did a better job of maintaining tension, but overall I do tend to prefer the first.

Have you seen Happy Death Day or The Final Girls? I assume yes, but if you haven't, they're worth a watch

  5. Oh boy the scream movies are my childhood I loved them watching them in broad day light because I would have shat myself. I love the fact that it's nothing supernatural and you are forced to have your own guess on who's the killer

  6. Have to say Jada Pinkett, though no Drew, was a big draw for the black community, so for us it was a big start getting merc'd who should have been a larger role. Are you gonna peek at Scary Movie? I'm not usually a fan of that type of thing (aka comedy snob), but the Jada character at Shake-a-Spear In Love is a fantastic scene. I still call the real film by that title.

  7. I actually just watched this movie for the first time earlier this week, and I gotta say, while I have a pendantic streak, and agree with all the points made here, watching that finale in the theatre made the theatre geek in me smile so much that my face hurt. Also, during the argument about sequels, my first thought was "What about Shrek 2?" then I remembered that the first Shrek movie hadn't even come out yet. Oops 😛

  8. Yeah, Scream 2 isn't as good as the original Scream. As incredible as Scream 2 is, it's just that little bit derivative of Scream, same formula but without the freshness to make it truly land. Still doesn't stop it from being like a 8/9 out of 10 though. This series is just pretty much all bangers (fingers crossed for scream 5)

  9. This movie and Go are a one, two punch for Sexy but probably going to kill you Timothy Olyphant. I too met many Randy’s when I was in school too. Over all it was great though.

  10. Love this sequel. Also love the discussions on sequels. And as much as I disagree with Randy about sequels always being inferior, I do tend to disagree about two of the most counter-examples (Aliens and Terminator 2: Judgment Day). While this is a personal bias, these two either didn't do it for me in the same way (T2) or pushed the series in a direction I liked less (Aliens). I will readily admit that both are great movies, but I do not believe they are better than their predecessors.

Some examples of sequels I do believe are better (in no particular order, of varying quality, for different reasons):
    Dawn of the Dead
    Captain America: The Winter Soldier
    Hellboy II: The Golden Army
The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
    The Purge: Anarchy

I considered putting The Dark Knight in there, but I consider it and Batman Begins at about a similar level. Both have some flaws, but I feel Batman Begins holds together better in the end. It is very close, though. Same goes for The Godfather: Part II, though that may end up more in the sequels favor.

  11. Probably one of my least popular horror (and movie in general) take is that Scream 2 is my least favorite of the 4. I don't understand why either but that's just how it worked out when I finished Scream 4. Maybe that'll change once I rewatch all of them ahead of Scream 2022
